Louisiana Marathon Weekend
Start The Louisiana Marathon® celebrates the unique culture and lifestyle of the state with a passion for running. The weekend long event brings a nationally recognized running festival to the state capital, Baton Rouge. The multi-race format provides something for every runner: the kids, the couch-to-5Kers and the serious long distance competitors. As a running festival which offers a featured full Marathon, Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and The Advocate 5K & Kids Marathon; participants, volunteers and spectators can enjoy local food and beverage offerings and live music from around the state.

A Trek to the land of Auroras at LASM
Discover both the beauty and science of auroras in a special presentation by Art & Science's Irene W. Pennington Planetarium Director Jon Elvert. Learn what auroras are, what causes them, and where they can best be seen. Along with an opportunity to ask questions, information will also be provided on a 2016 Northern Lights Voyage along the coast of Norway. This event is being held FREE of charge, but please note that seating is limited.

Walls Project: MLK Day of Service
Volunteers can arrive in paint attire at 8AM on Monday, January 19 in the parking lot next to the Pastime Restaurant (Downtown). The Walls Project has announced it will join with Baton Rouge Mayor Melvin L. "Kip" Holden neighborhood revitalization initiative, Love Your Block to gather on January 19, the MLK Day of Service, to hold a community paint day to create art on very public pillars under I-10 Mississippi River Bridge ramp.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
The Commemoration Program includes representatives from Baton Rouge's varied faith community, civic and community entities and governmental leaders. The program will culminate with a march for peace from the Mt. Zion church to the Baton Rouge River Center.

Saturday at the Market
Warm up inside Main Street Market this Saturday with a cup of coffee and a sweet treat to start your weekend. Richard Markert with Taste Restaurant will prepare warm winter recipes with samples for the crowd during the weekly Fresh from the Market cooking demonstration beginning at 10AM. Outside at the Farmers Market, local farmers and food artisans will have plenty of citrus, cheese, meats, root veggies and more available from 8AM to noon.
