Kidd Keynotes: Autism Awareness April is National Autism Awareness Month and the USS KIDD Veterans Museum has partnered with Autism Speaks to present a free lecture that will address the importance of appreciating the unique aspects of all people on Saturday, April 18, at 1PM, in the museum lobby. According to the Autism Society, "National Autism Awareness Month represents an excellent opportunity to promote autism awareness, autism acceptance and to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnosis each year."

Preparatory drawings, maquettes, 3-D printer models, and full-scale photographs reveal how these public works came to be, the stories they tell, and how they were made.

Red Stick Farmer's Market Red Stick Farmers Market celebrates the Louisiana strawberry harvest with the annual Strawberry Jam this Saturday. April 18. Shoppers can find flats of sweet Louisiana berries as well as strawberry jam, wine, pastries, pies, salad dressings and even pots of growing strawberry plants. Chef Troy Deano from the Louisiana Culinary Institute will demonstrate recipes featuring the popular Louisiana berry during the Fresh from the Market cooking demonstration hosted by Chef Celeste Gill. Throughout the morning there will be face painting by Liz Lopes, special strawberry giveaways at the coffee booth, a strawberry kids art activity, and music from the local Lagniappe Dulcimer Society. Local farmers will have tasting samples of a variety of berries grown in Louisiana. Belle Ecorce Goat Farm will have a special strawberry chevre for shoppers to sample. Kids 12 and under are encouraged to visit the Red Stick Sprouts tent to learn about the Sprouts kids club and sign up to win a pint of strawberries.
