LSU Night of French Cinema: une nuit blanche à Baton Rouge! The Center for French and Francophone Studies at Louisiana State University is proud to present the Sixth Annual LSU Night of French Cinema: une nuit blanche à Baton Rouge! Now a well established Center tradition, this all-night cinematic event returns to the Manship Theatre on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 6PM until dawn! The evening begins with an aperitif and charcuteries, followed by servings of French wine and cheese, baguettes, pastries, and desserts between each screening, ending with a French breakfast of croissants, baguettes, and coffee. Four films will be shown, each of which hilariously or dramatically depicting French and Francophone culture. All films are in French with English subtitles.

Downtown Mardi Gras kicks off with Jupiter and Juno The Krewe of Jupiter and Juno rolls through the streets on Saturday, February 19 at 6PM. The parade begins at the corner of Government Street and St. Philip Street, and ends at the corner of Convention Street & River Road. Jupiter's 2011 Theme is "Once Upon a Time." The Jupiter's Jam will be held at the Hilton Capitol Center following the parade.

CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Downtown's 12th Annual CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Mardi Gras Dog Parade is this Sunday, February 20 at 1:30PM. Dress your canine pal in super-sleuth style and join the Mardi Gras Dog Parade. The parade begins at North Boulevard and 5th Street, proceeding east to 8th Street, turning left onto 8th Street, 8th Street to North Boulevard and ending at the 4th Street & 5th Street area. Registration is 4th Street and 5th Street.

Saturday at the Market Beautiful spring-like weather is on schedule for the Markets this week! A great variety of fresh produce, pasture-raised meats and artisan food items will be available including Louisiana strawberries and citrus. This Saturday's Fresh from the Market cooking show features Gaye Sandoz of Edible Enterprises. The cooking demonstration begins at 10AM in the North Street seating area of Main Street Market. The Kids Korner will continue inside the Market from 9 to 11AM with a fun Mardi Gras themed art activity.

Music at Mid-Day Free lunchtime concerts beginning at noon each Wednesday will feature local musicians, student ensembles, professional musicians and a wide variety of music from Classical to Standards, Blues, Jazz and Americana. Downtown patrons interested in attending can bring their own lunch or order takeout from any downtown area restaurant.
The concerts take place on the Fourth Floor Terrace of the Shaw Center for the Arts. Call 225-389-7170 for more info.
