Bicentennial Family Homecoming & Bicentennial Blues Concert Come celebrate Louisiana's 200th birthday with two events on Saturday and Sunday sponsored by the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission. First on Saturday, The Bicentennial Family Homecoming, the Commission's hallmark event, will be held at the Capitol Park. The main stage will feature entertainment all day and pavilions representing different regions of the state will be set up in Capitol Park, highlighting their food, music and artisans. Then join us on Sunday for the Bicentennial Blues Concert at the Old State Capitol, featuring Luther Kent Trick Bag Big Band with Chris LeBlanc, and special guest Tyree Neal band, plus Mr. Hinson & the Blisters. Their musical influences reflect their true New Orleans heritage combining Rock, Funk, Hip-hop, & R&B. After 8 covers a wide variety of music, from the 1950s to today's hot hits, while adding a touch of New Orleans-style funk to a high energy show. LASM: Star Party on the Levee Join the LASM in celebrating the fascinating science of astronomy! Pennington Planetarium will host a variety of astronomy-related activities for the whole family-special planetarium shows, exhibits, a telescope display, and more. Learn about the importance of dark skies, light pollution, and careers in astronomy. Activities included with regular admission. Stargazers of all ages will enjoy viewing the Moon, the ringed planet Saturn, Venus, Mars, star clusters, and more. They will have telescopes set up on the Riverfront Landing Dock between LASM and the USS Kidd, however you are welcome to bring your own telescope. Red Stick Farmer's Market Colorful spring produce fills farmers' tables at the Red Stick Farmers Market this Saturday. Early season blueberries have arrived, as well as cucumbers, green beans, purple beans, leeks, tomatoes, spring onions, artichokes and summer squash. Fresh cut sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons, sweet peas and bachelor buttons are also in full bloom. Main Street Market will also feature locally made products including artisan breads, culinary gifts and handcrafted jewelry. Pick up a hot breakfast from the many cafes inside Main Street Market and catch the 10AM Fresh from the Market cooking demonstration with Chef Andrea Flores this Saturday.
