Heritage Lecture: David McNamara
The Foundation for Historical Louisiana's (FHL) monthly Heritage Lecture will feature Dave McNamara Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Governor's Mansion. McNamara's lecture entitled, "The Louisiana Orphan Train," will describe the life and experiences of the orphans that were part of this movement. Stories of the lives of orphan train riders will be retold by McNamara and FHL board member Myrna Bergeron. Currently, there is a museum dedicated to the story of the Louisiana Orphan Train in Opelousas. The lecture is free for FHL members and $10 for guests. Individuals are encouraged to pre-register. Calandro's Select Cellars and Fine Wines will host the reception beginning at 6 p.m.

Old State Capitol Reception: Our Quilted Past
Our Quilted Past: An Exhibit of Feedsack Quilts and the cotton bag industry of the mid-20th century features 19 quilts made between 1925 and 1955. The exhibit tells the story of the American cotton bag industry and women's ingenuity in re-using those bags. Other items on display include vintage dresses, aprons and sun-bonnets. Join the Old State Capitol February 4th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for the exhibit opening and refreshments.
